Roller and manual shades fail in a handful of predictable ways: the chain stops pulling, the shade won't travel the full height of the window, or the whole thing comes away from the wall. All three are repairs, not replacements. A great many of the shades we're called to have no label at all — they came with the condo, or were ordered online years ago. That's not a problem.
Chains, travel limits and brackets are the parts that actually go wrong, and they are the cheap parts to put right. Repairing the mechanism puts the shade back to working like new.
Fabric is the honest exception. Once a shade has been in Miami sun for years and the fabric has gone brittle, faded through or torn along the roller, a repair buys you very little — and we'll say so.
The chain won't pull the shade up, or the shade slips back down under its own weight once you let go.
The shade won't travel all the way up, or won't come all the way down. The stopping points have drifted and need resetting — one of the most common calls we take.
Shades usually fall because the brackets were under-fixed or wrong for the tube. We re-mount correctly so it doesn't happen twice.
Hunter Douglas, Lutron, Somfy, Rollease Acmeda and the rest — and just as readily the unbranded shade with nothing printed on the tube. No brand, no receipt, no paperwork? Still fine.
We aim to attend as soon as possible — often the same day, and always within one to two days when we're busy.
