Roman shades have their own two failure modes, and neither means the shade is finished. A lift cord snaps or frays and the shade stops lifting evenly. Or the shade hangs crooked, one side sitting lower than the other, and no amount of pulling squares it up. Both are repairs. We do them across Miami and South Florida on all brands, including no-name.
Roman shades are among the best candidates for repair of anything we work on. The fabric is the expensive part and it is usually the part that's fine — it's the cord, a consumable, that has failed.
Restringing puts a shade back into service that would otherwise be thrown away. The exception is fabric that has sun-rotted through, which does happen in Miami on west-facing windows. If new cord would just tear through weak fabric, we'll tell you.
A lift cord that has snapped completely, or is frayed and starting to give. New cord run through the existing rings and fabric, and the shade works again.
A shade that hangs crooked and won't sit level in the window. Almost never a damaged shade — usually a cord tension or mounting problem.
One side rising faster than the other, or folds that have gone out of square and no longer stack neatly when the shade is raised.
Roman shades are one of the most commonly custom-made and unbranded window treatments there is. Plenty of the ones we restring were made by a local workroom years ago with no label at all. That's fine.
We aim to attend as soon as possible — often the same day, and always within one to two days when we're busy.
Restringing is nearly always worth doing. We would rather put a good shade back into service than sell you a replacement you don't need.
Photograph it hanging: A photo of the whole shade hanging in the window tells us most of what we need — especially if it's sitting uneven.
We assess the fabric: We check whether the fabric will hold new cord before we recommend restringing.
We restring or level: New cord through the existing rings, or tension and mounting corrected so the shade sits square.
If replacing: Where the fabric has genuinely aged out, we make custom shades sized properly for the window.

Yes, in most cases. A snapped or frayed lift cord is the most common Roman shade failure, and the fabric is usually fine. We replace the cords, reset the lift system and check the rings and headrail so the shade raises and lowers evenly again. If the fabric itself has rotted or torn, we will tell you honestly before any work starts.
A Roman shade hangs crooked when its lift cords are no longer the same length. Cords stretch, slip in the cord lock or wear unevenly over time, so one side sits lower than the other. Leveling means resetting and re-tensioning the cords so the folds stack neatly and the bottom edge sits straight across the window.

Usually, yes. Custom Roman shade fabric is the expensive part, and a cord failure doesn't damage it. Restringing keeps the shade you chose and matches the rest of the room. Replacement only makes sense when the fabric is faded, torn or stained beyond saving, and we will say so plainly if that is the case.
